Bikini Bottom just got a major upgrade. The “Deli” rapper herself, Ice Spice, is officially bringing her massive star power to the animation game! Paramount Pictures just dropped the official trailer for The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, giving the fans the first glimpse of the Grammy-nominated Munkin flexing her voice-acting skills.
Ice Spice is hyped, confirming she’s “so excited” to be in a movie with the GOAT, SpongeBob. And when you peep the trailer, you know it’s her! Her animated fish character rocks the same signature bright orange Afro we know and love. Though she only gets a quick cameo as a ride attendant—telling someone to “Don’t make me call security”—the message is clear: the Bronx native is taking over the big screen!
But the voice role is just the intro. Ice Spice is also dropping a brand new single, “Big Guy,” for the film’s official soundtrack. This is a double-play move—a movie debut and new music to run up the streams! The film, which is directed by Derek Drymon, hits theaters on December 19th.
She joins a ridiculous line-up, including legends like George Lopez and Regina Hall. This role is a massive win, and it follows her part in Highest 2 Lowest alongside A$AP Rocky and Denzel Washington earlier this year.
Ice Spice told NYLON that she fell in love with the project as soon as she hit the studio, noting: “My dad is so proud of me for landing this.” She’s staying busy, too: just last week, she surprise-dropped the track “Pretty Privilege,” keeping the momentum hot after earlier hits like “Baddie Baddie” and her Latto collab, “Gyatt.”
The movie’s plot sees SpongeBob trying to prove his bravery to Mr. Krabs by following a ghost pirate into the deep sea—but we’re really just here to see Ice Spice’s character in action. Bikini Bottom is officially lit!
